Fields of Gold: A Look Back at Sunflower Season
There’s something truly magical about sunflower season in Buckeye, Arizona. The golden blooms stretch across private fields, the warm October light softens everything it touches, and the energy of families and couples enjoying the moment makes every session feel special. This year, we had the pleasure of shooting at Sweet Flower Home, a private farm run by Carrie, where the sunflowers bloom strikingly all through October — making it a hotspot for photographers in the area.
We captured memories over three different days in October, and even though some mornings started overcast with the threat of rain, each day turned out beautifully. The light, the colors, and the energy of the clients combined to make these sessions some of my favorite of the year.
Sunflowers, Smiles, and Stories
Every session at Sweet Flower Home is a little different, which is part of what makes them so fun. My wife was there to help greet families and assist throughout the sessions, making the day flow effortlessly. Families, couples, and individuals came with all sorts of life events to celebrate — from family memories to maternity sessions for soon-to-be first-time parents, engagements, anniversaries, and more.
The beauty of these sunflower mini sessions is how much connection and personality comes through in such a short window. Even on the busiest days, we captured real moments, laughter, and the quiet pauses that make photos truly timeless.
Laughter, Love, and Sunflower Magic
Some of my favorite moments to photograph are the little interactions that show genuine bonds — sibling laughter and tender connections, parents sharing quiet smiles, or a soon-to-be mom glancing at her bump as the sun dips low. Every family, couple, and individual brought their story to the field, and each session had its own unique magic.
From the overcast mornings that turned into golden afternoons to the playful chaos of toddlers running through the rows of sunflowers, these moments are why I love what I do.
